Training On Your Schedule

Teaching your pup those baseline training skills isessential. While many owners feel they can train their dog the basics on their own, they may lack the experience to see what makes their dog unique. What works forone dog may not work for another. Some dogs are motivated differently, havedifferent anxieties, or respond differently to training styles. An expert trainercan pick up on the subtleties of what makes your pet unique and help you to sharpenyour own training skills so that together you can train up the perfect pup!

This program is a good fit for folks who are motivated todo most of their pet’s training on their own, but are open to receivingguidance from an expert trainer. During your series of one-hour sessions, wewill work with your pet to teach them a new skill, and then work with you onhow to maintain it. During the next week, you will go home and maintain thoseskills, performing most of the actual work of dog training on your own! If you’relooking to take the lead on training, but want an expert trainer to help youalong the way, private training is the perfect fit.

However, if you don’t have the time, energy, or bandwidth to train your dog on your own, one of our Bootcamp or Day Training programs maybe a better fit for you! With these programs, the trainers do more of the training work themselves, then all that’s left for you to do is maintain the training your pet received.

What will my pet learn in Private Training with Kim’s K-9?

Each of our training programs is shaped around the same baseline skills, uniquely tailored to the pup and people we are working with. As with all of our programs, our trainers will start by getting to know you, your pet, and your goals before planning out a custom program that will help you to reach your goals while working with your dog’s unique temperament and motivators. The following are skills most clients can expect to cover in a private training course:

·       Sit (until released)

·       Down (until released)

·       Wait (until released)

·       Not jumping up

·       A close “heel” walk

·       Multiple forms of recall (such as “come”)

·       “Place” (until released)

·       “Leave it”

Depending on your goals, your trainer may also add other skills to your pet’s program depending on your home dynamics and training goals.

Will my dog be at the kennel during the day or overnight?

Nope! For private training, you and your dog meet us outside of the kennel for your one-hour session. This program does not take advantage of our boarding or daycare facility. Instead, we meet with you as your schedule permits outside of the main Kim’s K-9 building to give you this week’s lesson and answer any questions you may have from the previous week.

How much does private training cost?

Each of our programs, including each unique private training program, is customized to your pet and your goals. To find out how much your private training program will cost, contact us and tell us about you, your pet, and what you’d like to see happen in training. We’ll reach back with a quote for your custom program!

What happens between sessions?

Each week, you’ll meet with a professional trainer for a one-hour session. Between your sessions, you will work with your pet to train the skills you learned in training using the methods your trainer shared. The next week, we’ll start by checking up on last week’s skills. If the pup has learned that skill, we can move on to the next! If they get stuck on one skill or another, we can stick with that one for another week to make sure they’ve got it.

More Training Options

If day training doesn’t sound like the right fit for you and your furry friend, you can also check out our Bootcamp or Day Training options. Or, if your dog is under 18 weeks old, ask us about our Puppy Kindergarten class!

We took our 4 yr old rescue that had ZERO training and were able to turn her into a well-behaved pup in only a few weeks. The training they gave to her humans cemented all the work they had done and now we have a very happy family.

I brought my rescue St. Bernard in for evaluation and subsequent training and have continued to use their boarding and daycare services. I wouldn’t trust any other company to care for my dog as they are so loving and attentive. It has been a great experience all around.

We came in for an evaluation with our Bernese mountain dog and immediately felt confident that she was going to receive a great training plan. We start next month and can’t wait to see how much it helps her!

Warm, friendly place where it’s clear they not only love their clients, but care about long term successful dog-human relationships. Everyone who works there shows so much love to our puppy and I am always confident she is well cared for when she’s there. Their training programs are excellent; thoughtful, practical, and they meet your dog right where they are.
